“Maya’s” Story — From Darkness to Hope
In the rural village of Zoreth, 14-year-old Maya’s life was shattered by violence and rejection.

In the rural stretches of “Zoreth”, life is a constant struggle. Families rely on farming without modern tools or reliable water, and many fathers leave for the Middle East in search of work.
For “Maya”, a bright 14-year-old with a love for learning, this reality shaped her childhood. Each day she walked two hours to her village school, determined to pursue an education despite the heavy weight of poverty and conflict at home.
But “Maya's" life took a devastating turn one afternoon.
On her way home from school, she was ambushed and sexually assaulted by three young men from her own village. Left unconscious, she awoke not only to physical pain but also to the shattering knowledge that her community had turned against her. Instead of protection, her father rejected her. Neighbors whispered, teachers treated her with cruelty, and even the families of the perpetrators threatened her safety.
What should have been a season of hope and growth became a nightmare of isolation and fear.
It was in this desperate moment that a Love Treks advocate, “Abigail”, stepped into “Maya's" story. “Abigail” brought “Maya” to safety, ensuring she received urgent medical care and shelter far from the threats that surrounded her. For the first time since the attack, “Maya” was met with compassion instead of condemnation.
Today, “Maya” is beginning to rebuild. In the shelter, she lives alongside other girls who have endured similar trauma; sisters who understand her pain. She is receiving counseling to heal, life skills training to prepare for her future, and spiritual guidance to help restore her sense of worth. Plans are underway for her to re-enter school, this time in a safe environment where she can pursue her education without fear.
“Maya” still carries deep wounds, and her journey toward healing is ongoing. Yet even in her worry, she is no longer alone. She is surrounded by love, safety, and a future that is slowly being pieced back together.
This is why Love Treks exists. We step into the hidden corners of suffering, to rescue those who have been silenced, and to remind young girls like “Maya” that their stories are not over.
